Healthy Gums

Ask the dentists at River Dental in Medicine Hat, Alberta about gum disease treatment and prevention, and how to keep your gums healthy.

We will work with you to develop a custom soft tissue management plan to help you maintain healthy gums. The term "soft tissue management" refers to an individualized gum health plan to help you maintain healthy gums. It typically includes treatment and preventive elements.

How do I know if I need soft tissue management?

During your regular check up, our dentist and hygienist will check your gums for areas that are infected or inflamed (also known as periodontal pockets). These periodontal pockets can be a sign of gum disease.

What types of treatments are included in a soft tissue management program?

Our hygiene team will work with you to develop an effective soft tissue management plan that is tailored to your individual needs. Some of the effective treatments we recommend include more frequent appointments with our skilled dental hygienists, root planning and scaling, specific home care routines, antibiotics, and, in some cases, surgical procedures.

What can I expect if I follow my soft tissue management plan?

The goal of a soft tissue management plan is to control periodontal disease (gum disease). The treatment plan aims to eliminate inflammation and infection in the gums and on root surfaces, resulting in healthy gums that are not tender or inflamed and do not bleed, reduce pocket depths and control periodontal disease.
